Original surface and vibrant color define Bert Parsons’ well-documented collection, assembled over decades. Highlights include a Stirewalt miniature painted blanket chest, an 1823 dated Prussian blue blanket chest made in Albemarle, Stanly County, NC, with family history, an early Virginia documented painted apothecary cabinet, and a New England Fancy red-painted Windsor bench, as well as metalwork, pottery, Staffordshire, paintings, and six objects from the landmark 2004 “American Fancy” exhibition.

Literature: Example of identical design illustrated in The Bible in Iron, Henry Mercer Chapman, (1914), p. 88, fig. 140, in a section on the Mary Ann Furnace. Similar example illustrated in Iron at Winterthur, Don Fennimore, 2004, p. 69, fig.24.

Note: Attributed to the Mary Ann Furnace by John Bivins and Sumpter Priddy as discussed on the invoice. The Mary Ann furnace was established in 1762 by George Ross and Mark Bird in York County, Pennsylvania. It was the first charcoal burning iron furnace built west of the Susquehanna River. It was a primary manufacturer of iron stoves and a critical supplier of cannonballs and grapeshot for the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. George Ross signed the Declaration of Independence.

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction, or will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
