Tammany Society
American, late 18th/early 19th century, central engraved snake, zigzag, dot and dash border, "BEWARE", "WHERE LIBERTY DWELLS THERE IS MY COUNTERY
SIC" and "Oct 14th 1492", with salmon silk ribbon with fringe, unmarked, 3 in., heavy wear to silk. Notes: Accompanied by a scientific analysis report by Jennifer Mass, Ph.D., indicating the metal is “consistent with post-revolutionary war date for the Society’s formation, and suggests that the medal is contemporary with the Society’s Founding or was made shortly thereafter”.
