Note: Bunker moved to France in 1882 to study at the famed École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. The following summer he travelled to Normandy, and ended up in the small coastal town of Larmor in 1884. He painted this charming scene with the imposing 16th century tower numerous times, and was especially drawn to the coastal atmosphere, which afforded the landscape painter a nearly unchanging, diffused light on his subject matter. A larger version of this scene is held by the Terra Foundation for American Art, Chicago, Illinois, object number 1991.1. A smaller version of the same scene in oil sold at Sotheby's, New York, April 21, 2023 Cross-Currents in America: The Wolf Family Collection, for $50,800.

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item.
