(Washington, born 1941) important "Macchia Pair", 1987, ultramarine lip wraps, fine multi-colored bodies in shades of pink, blue, peach and turquoise, pale turquoise interior, underbowl with signature "Chihuly 1987", bowl 15 x 13-1/2 x 13-1/2 in., underbowl 10-1/2 x 22 x 17 in., excellent condition, scattered surface wax (applied to avoid slippage),. Notes: Consignor was present at Harvey Littleton's studio, Spruce Pine, North Carolina, January 1987, when Chihuly and his team were there for a glass blowing session, with invited guests. This signed set of his came from that demonstration. A snowy day, once the glass pieces were cool enough, they were placed carefully in the snow as large colorful gems, a spectacular scene! The consignor was for ten years a member of the Penland School of Crafts Board, Spruce Pine, NC, and had the opportunity to know many of the glass artists there and watch the creative process. Over numerous years, this consignor took a deep interest in traveling, meeting top artists, some in their studios and homes, others in gallery shows and began collecting important Art Glass in various venues within the U.S.A. and abroad..
