Japanese, late 1940s, nine [Ema] tablets on pine by 1940s contemporary [Ema] artists, including Yamamoto Masao, Inaguki Saburo, Minagami Masato, Nagai Ikuko and Sekigawa Miyako; scenes include [Daruma], festival mask, fox, mouse, skate, Bishamonten, Mt. Fuji and great ocean waves, approximately 6-1/2 x 5 in., all in one box. Condition: good condition. Notes: Originally, Ema or horse paintings were offered to shrines and temples as tokens of appreciation. More recently, prayers and favor requests are painted on prayer boards and offered to shrines and temples. Lot includes a printed flyer announcing the art sale where these were apparently purchased by Prof. Bennett.
