Baskets Japanese, late 1940s, household baskets in a variety of shapes and sizes for domestic use including: three fish creels, largest 10 x 9 x 8 inw and one bamboo, largest 5-1/2 x 13-1/2 x 15-1/2 in., [minor breaks]; one large round tray, 3-3/4 x 18-1/2 in., [minor breaks]; 12 round storage, winnowing and/or sieve baskets, 2 x 6-1/2 to 6-1/2 x 3 in., [minor breaks]; four small food serving baskets, two flat for sushi, largest 5 x 9 in., and two upright, largest 3-1/2 x 4 x 4 in., [good condition]; lot accompanied by two books on domestic bamboo baskets: [A Basketmaker in Rural Japan] by Cort and Kenji, Weatherhill, and [Japanese Bamboo Baskets] by Kazuyoshi Kund?, Kodansha.. Condition: . Notes: This type of basket was universally used by Japanese for a wide range of household applications until after World War II when plastics and glass provided cheaper alternatives.
