Note:

Anna Clare Boothe Luce was an American playwright, politician, and celebrity, noted for her satiric sense of humor and for her role in American politics. It would appear she also took opportunities to paint.

Her accomplishments are numerous and include a stint at Vogue and Vanity Fair as editor. In 1935, she met Henry R. Luce, the world-renowned publisher of Time and later Life magazine.

Luce also wrote plays including The Women (1936), enormously popular and featured an all woman cast; Kiss the Boys Goodbye (1938) and Margin for Error (1939), an anti-Nazi play. All three were made into motion pictures. She was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives and served in that role from 1943 to 1947. She served as ambassador to Italy from 1953 to 1956and in 1983, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
