Art Frame American, mid-19th century, tintype attributed to be John Clark Barkley of Baltimore, Maryland, 1842-1900, upon his release from Libby Prison at Richmond, Virginia, 1854, and wearing a Federal uniform and holding a musket, left arm in a sling, 3-1/4 x 2-1/4 in.; set in a hand-carved oak frame with a federal shield flanked by anchors, an American flag, tents, a cannon, and a marching infantryman, 4-1/2 x 3-5/8 in.. Condition: good condition consistant with age. Notes: According to records, Barkley was enlisted in Company E of 40th Pennsylvania Volunteers and Company F of 57th Pennsylvania Volunteers infantrymen. He is buried in Loudon Park Cemetery, Baltimore, Maryland.. Provenance: The Estate of Marcus King, Blountville, Tennessee
