(Italian, 1705-1789) Portrait of a Noblewoman, wearing a brocaded lace and silk gown with matching headress and holding a dianthus, unsigned, oil on canvas, 40-1/2 x 31-1/2 in.; carved and gilt wood frame, lined and restretched on 19th century stretcher, crackle, flaking, patch upper right, accretion, canvas loose, scattered light retouch mostly at repairs; frame with abrasions. Notes: old handwritten label verso indicates that it was loaned to the "Museum of Fine Arts by Mrs. A-(?) Staunton" with an attribution to Van Loo. Provenance: A New York Collection
