Letterbox and Pen Stand
probably French, 19th century, finely hand-painted and gilt-decorated letter box signed "E Deoglers" lower left, canted hinged cover, two figures in a landscape, the woman on a swing, three-part stepped interior with striped silk lining, brass lock over three figures having tea in a garden, side and back panels similarly hand-painted, gilt and ebonized border banding, 8-1/4 x 7-1/4 x 6-3/4 in., surface loss to front top center of hinged cover, minor cracking and surface losses, interior likely relined, rough at corners and base edge; matching painted leather pen cup, figure of woman and child in a garden, 2-3/4 in., surface wear and pin holes to top .
