(19th century) View from Kowloon, Hong Kong, circa 1865, with American, British and French shipping, unsigned, oil on canvas, 17-7/8 x 23-1/2 in.; modern gilt wood frame, lined and stretched on original strainer, crackle, retouch within draw crackle and primarily at edges affecting less than 5% of surface; frame with abrasions. Notes: This view of Hong Kong shows a quiet harbor with three American schooners at right, a British barque and other anchored shipping. Built in 1861, the signal station appears at the top of Victoria Peak..
