circa 1785, reticulated plate centered with the arms of Fector, left side quartered with green and gold ground, each green quarter with two doves, the right side Lane, cobalt and iron red ground, with three white saltires, the whole surmounted with dove carrying a sprig of leaves, below the motto "Fide Felices Facti", reticulated and purple scroll borders, 7-1/2 in.
Note: "The service was made for James Peter Fector, the son of Peter Fector of Dover and his wife Mary Minet, who married in 1751. James Fector married in 1783 Frances Lane, daughter of Thomas Bateman Lane, who had been Mayor of Dover in 1770, possibly descended from Sir Thomas Lane, Lord Mayor of London in 1695.
On 6 June 1814 the Tsar of Russia stayed at the Fector's house after having landed at Dover and before proceeding to London for discussions for a Peace Conference. This service was used at a banquet given that day in his honour."
