depicting the bodhisattva Guanyin (Kannon) in relief against a flame mandorla, on rectangular base, surfaces carved with minimal decoration, 10-1/4 x 5-1/8 x 2-1/2 in.; with carved wood stand, 1 x 5-3/4 x 4-1/2 in.

Provenance: K. Watanabe Curios, Tokyo (accompanied by paperwork dated June 12, 1947); Collection of U.S. Military Officer Stationed in Asia during the 1940s and 1950s; by descent in family

The lot is accompanied by a note from K. Watanabe Curios, Tokyo, dated˜June 12, 1947˜dating the piece to 420-588 A.D.

Condition

surface dirt layer and accretion, large chip and loss to one side, crack through body running from edge to top of Guanyin's head, scattered edge wear and small chips; stand associated, light scratches and wear, small chip to underside

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
