decorated with a five claw dragon chasing a flaming pearl in a body of water, apocryphal Yong Hua Tang mark to base, 9-1/2 in.
Note: This modest yet striking blue and white porcelain vase is a fine example of the craft. The stark, clean white background of the high quality porcelain acts as a fitting canvas for the finely painted theme of the dragon and the pearl. Dragons symbolize benevolence, representing luck and prosperity. With its resemblance to a sea serpent, dragons were also believed to control water phenomena, from rain to typhoons to floods, and to live at the bottom of bodies of water like lakes, rivers, and the sea. And the pearl - a sign of wisdom, enlightenment and spiritual essence.
