Provenance: Leo Hindery, Jr., Cornelius, North Carolina; Private Collection, Maryland
Note: Chas Fagen was commissioned in 1999 by C-SPAN, in conjunction with the White House Historical Association, to paint portraits of all 43 presidents, for the exhibit American Presidents Life Portraits. The exhibit was commissioned as a complement to C-SPAN's Peabody Award-winning television series, American Presidents: Life Portraits. The artist based this portrait on the last photograph of President Lincoln taken before his assassination in 1865. The exhibit has traveled widely, to many presidential homes and libraries, and was on display in Washington, DC during the 2009 Presidential Inauguration. It was presented to Leo J. Hindery, Jr., in appreciation for his work as C-SPAN's Executive Committee Chairman from 1997-1999, with documentation attached verso.
