(French, 1874-1965)
Portrait of an Old Woman, signed left of bottom center "Ch Huard" and inscribed "Pour Madame Vanderbilt/or Norman apple/blossom to help cheer up", with three early 19th century French stamps, red crayon on laid paper, 13-3/8 x 11-3/4 in.; modern wood frame, 17-3/8 x 15-5/8 in.
Note:The sheet appears to have been removed from a book and then utilized by Charles Huard for a drawing. Charles Huard was the official artist for the French Government during WWI, having first gained his reputation as a student of every day life. This drawing is a charming depiction of an old peasant woman that was then gifted to a "Madame Vanderbilt". This was stated to have descended in the Consuelo Vanderbilt Family, New York.
