(Annetta Johnson Saint- Gaudens, Flint, Ohio, 1869-1943) unglazed pottery bust depicting the Persian mathematician, astronomer, philosopher, and poet, "Omar Khayyam" sculpted in relief across lower front, "SAG" monogram and "MCMXIII" inscribed at right shoulder, 17 in.Note: Bust was made for O.L. Bachelder likely at the Omar Khayyam Art Pottery by sculptor Annetta Saint-Gaudens as a gift. The bust was known to sit over the entrance to Bachelders pottery until his death in 1935. Annetta was married to Louis Saint-Gaudens and the sister-in-law of renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
