falling block action rifle, 28-1/2 in. round barrel, marked at side "Brown Mfg. Co. Newburyport, Mass./Ballard's Patent/Nov. 5, 1861" and on left side of hammer spur "patented Jan. 5, 1864", walnut stock decorated with ivory inlay and brass lion badge on opposing sides, serial number 21451, overall 46 in. length
