Note: Sophia was the mother of King George I. Heir to the British throne, she died a few months before she was to ascend the throne. Her son, King George I was coronated in her stead after the death of Queen Anne. A label verso indicates the identity of the sitter and provenance, "came to Tabley Thro' Sir Francis Leicesters' wife's family (with the rest of the loyalist pictures-)"
