Notes: Born in Lester, Arkansas, Braxton Ponder was in the grocery business until his retirement in 1986, after which he took up wood carving. A self-taught artist living in Alabama, he used a pocket knife to carve animals, religious figures, and Noah’s Arks, which he painted.
