14 in. barrel, 28 in. overall, lock plate marked "H.W. MORTIMER/LONDON", wood stock with carved crown over "1785" over "G III R", top of barrel marked "H.W. MORTIMER LONDON" and (Fleur di lis, bird, and three castle mark) over "1785", brass barrel, trigger guard butt plate and ramrod pipe, sliding safety, ramrod with iron worm, checkered wood stock, engraved on end of barrel "HAPPY HE THAT ESCAPES ME"; Note: Harvey Walklate Mortimer (1753-1819) was appointed gunmaker to the king circa 1783. The Mortimer family were one of the best known and revered family of gunmakers of the era and manufactured a wide variety of firearms.; Provenance: The I.
