possibly shop of Isaac Vose, circa 1820, highly figured mahogany top with two drop leaves, over an ogee molded skirt, trestle form base with finely rendered scrolls, turned and tapered fluted columns, on leaf carved and molded legs with brass paw casters, very finely crafted, ash gates, ash and white pine secondary, 28 x 39 x 25-3/4 in., opens to 61 in. - Provenance: Private Collection - Note: Furniture with related details associated with the Vose shop is illustrated inÿRather Elegant Than Showy: The Classic Furniture of Isaac Vose by Mussey Jr. and Pearce. Mussey and Pearce also illustrate a carved and gilt pier glass attributed to the shop of John Doggett with very closely related leaf carving.
Condition
appears to be in good condition overall, both leaves with joints at lower edges (possible restorations but appear to be as made) , top held in place with modern wooden keys, strip at center of top (appears to be as made) , trestle base retains some early finish, some areas of varnish bloom and other minor distress
