(New Orleans/North Carolina, 20/21st Century)
In Rerum Natura (The Order of Things), 2006, oil on canvas, signed verso, 64 x 70 in; stained and distressed wood frame, 74 x 79 in.
Provenance: A North Carolina Collection
Note: A New Orleans native, Betty Clark grew up in the same neighborhood where Ida Kohlmeyer lived and worked. While not technically a student of Kohlmeyer's, Clark was often at her house and counts her as a childhood influence: as a wife, a mother, and an accomplished artist. Ida Kohlmeyer was a friend of Mark Rothko, who showed her how to use a wall and heavy screws instead of an easel for large paintings. Clark uses this idea to this day to hang large canvases on a wall to paint.
surface is excellent; frame with light wear
