(Maryland/Virginia, 1904-1976) Clayton McMichen and the Home Town Boys, c. 1930, signed lower right "Berkeley Williams", oil on canvas, 60-3/4 x 45-1/4 in.; painted wood frame, 66-3/4 x 51-3/4 in.Note: Clayton McMichen (1900-1970) was a widely renowned country fiddle player who performed and recorded with various well-known players across multiple styles. He was a regular on radio, television, and stages across the country, as well as being the songwriter of such classics as Peach Pickin' Time in Georgia. There is a photograph of the Home Town Boys with Clayton McMichen in the digital archive of the Country Music Hall of Fame. It is quite clearly the same musicians. The inscription on the photo reads "Home Town Boys String Band. Atlanta Ga Sept. 18- 22.", Provenance: Property of a Southern Collector
