probably Italian, 17th century, figured walnut top with barber pole inlaid banding, over five elaborately carved drawers set with original iron locks, escutcheons, and teardrop drawer pulls, carved and paneled case sides, centering a cartouche, IHS, on bun feet, 41 x 74-1/2 x 29-1/2 in. - Provenance: Estate of Paul W. good integrity overall, base molding loss at one case side, some minor inlay losses, scattered pest damage, molding loss at one side panel exposing interior pest damage, some restorations to secondary surfaces (some scars from previous interior braces, now removed), some feet and some bottom boards replaced, surface mildew, other scattered distress and repairs
