French, mid to late 18th century, possibly by Leonard Roby, active circa 1750-1789, designs by Etienne Jeaurat, 1699-1789, outdoor village genre scene depicting recruiting officer in military attire raising a toast to a young man seated at a table with other companions, a seated woman culling herbs in left foreground, a sign from the inn reads “A LA BOUTEILLE.”, frame style border with spiraled acanthus leaves and flowers, and decorative escutcheons at corners, silk and wool, 111 x 76 in.
