(Italian, born circa 1810) Two works representing Maenads derived from Roman frescoes possibly from the House of Cicero, Pompeii, gouache over etched outlines on paper, 18 x 12-1/2 in. (sight); very fine, original matching carved and gilt wood frame,. Condition: not removed from original frames, good condition; frames with losses, some pieces accompany lot. Notes: These fine gouaches are thought to be inspired by Roman frescoes and based on works now lost by Raphael. Maestri is known for his depictions of Roman frescoes created for individuals on their [Grand Tour]. For similar works see Christie's London: Wednesday, January 13, 2016, Lot 93.
