Note: Jonathan I. Richardson, the Elder was the teacher of Thomas Hudson who later painted a full portrait of his son, Walter Edwards Freemen circa 1746.
The stamp verso the stretcher identifies the work of Francis Leedham (1794–1870), a prominent picture restorer and "liner" in 19th-century London.
