According to information provided by the consignor, "Edmond Simmons (1729-1814) was born in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, but lived from early life in Philadelphia. Family histories record him as a patriot, a Colonel in the Philadelphia Militia during the Revolution, a vestryman in Christ Church and a member of the choir.
