(London, American, 1828-1891) pencil on cream paper, multiple sketches including "Remains of old Spanish Fort on 'Old Fort Point' 2 miles below Beaufort" showing the blocks of oyster shell concrete along shore, one small figure labeled "at Gov. Mannings Plantation LA", and an archituctural detail identified as "at the side of the Old Courthouse, New Orleans", on verso a full drawing of Old Fort Point from the shore perspective identifying Beaufort in the distance, unsigned, 5 x 6-3/4 in. (sight); modern frame, sandwiched with glass on each side. Notes: The old Spanish Fort at John Joyner Smith plantation Port Royal Island, South Carolina was occupied by Federal troops in 1861 and between 1864 and 1866, a school to educate escaped slaves was run by the Union Army. One of the first readings of the Emancipation was held on January 1, 1863 at Smith Plantation which was then called Camp Saxton. William R. Waud was an artist correspondent during the Civil War and worked for [The New York Illustrated News] and [Harpers Weekly]. There are numerous drawings of his from Charleston and Beaufort including one drawing of a church titled "Negro Church, Smith's Plantation, Port Royal Isl'd, S.C." in the collection of the Library of Congress.. In house shipping.  Brunk Auctions provides in-house shipping via UPS Ground (signature required) for many items. Brunk Auctions will provide a shipping quote which includes shipping, materials, labor and insurance.  Insurance is based on the selling price and premium.

Shipping arrangements are made only after the invoice is paid.  The payment for shipping is a separate charge from payment of your lots.

Sales Tax: If you live in North Carolina and/or pick up from the auction house, and do not have a valid resale tax number on file with us, you MUST pay North Carolina state sales tax. The NC Sales Tax will not apply to any items being shipped out of state (unless the client resides in North  Carolina) or to those clients with a resale tax number.
