Note:Accompanied by a copy of Sotheby's sale catalog and copy of an invoice for 12 chairs for $8,750. The pattern on which the design of these chairs is based was first published by Thomas Chippendale in his The Gentleman and Cabinet Maker's Director, 1754, pl. XII. It appears to have been a popular model in Ireland, examples being recorded from from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. A similar 18th century set of chairs from Malahide Castle, County Dublin, was sold at Sotheby's, London, July 7, 2000, lot 27.
