French, probably late 18th century, one arm with illegible stamped signature "I.B...", each with carved beechwood frame with caned back and seat, fitted with blue damask silk seat cushions, 36 in. (armchair overall), 16 in. (armchair seat height); 38-1/2 in. (side chair overall), 17-1/2 in. (side chair seat height) - Provenance: Estate of Dr. Joan C. Huntley, Chapel Hill, North Carolina
scattered pest damage with some restorations and repairs throughout, including restorations at some seat frames, some spliced or restored legs, other repairs and restorations, one side chair slightly smaller in scale and probably later in date (marked at back of seat rail "MF")
