(New York/England, 1819-1905) Young Ruffed Grouse, Morrisania, Westchester, New York, 1863, No. 265, signed lower right "A.F. Tait/N.Y. '63" and signed and inscribed on front within unpainted spandrel and signed and inscribed with title verso and numbered, oil on Charles Roberson & Co. artist board, 9-3/8 x 12-1/2 in.; possibly original burlwood veneer frame with original gilt wood spandrel, some losses to paint on outer circumference of oval, recent cleaning and revarnishing by Colin Post; original gilt spandrel with cracking, frame with abrasions. Notes: This painting was likely exhibited at James S. Earle & Son, 816 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, a gallery specializing in fine paintings and looking glasses. Literature: Warder H.
