Trotting Horse About to be Sold, 1867, possibly a Xenia, Ohio, setting, signed lower left "Willard. 67", oil on canvas, 30 x 42 in.; modern gilt wood frame, laid down on masonite, crackle, retouch affecting less than 5% of surface  with most upper left and at a few points in sky, a detailed conservation report from Scott Webster Nolley, Chief Conservator, Fine Art Conservation of Virginia, accompanies the lot. Notes: Archibald Willard was best known for his painting titled "Spirit of '76" which gave us the imagery for "Yankee Doodle". The painting was sold in 2007 by Christie's New York for a record $1,472,000..
