Undercover and Evening at Kuerner's Study, a double-sided work, 1970,signed lower left (Undercover) "Andrew Wyeth", watercolor and drybrush on a single sheet of paper,  sight 26 x 39 in.;  fine wood frame, 35 x 48-1/4 in.

Acquired directly from the artist, late 1970s; Private Collection, Greenville, South Carolina; by descent in the family; A Private Family Collection

Provenance note: The original owner of this double-sided work became friendly with Andrew and Betsy Wyeth during the 1970s, at a time when they were also involved in the building of a new facility that would be the Greenville County Museum of Art.  They visited the Wyeth's in Chadd's Ford on numerous occasions, and were able to finally acquire Undervcover/Kuerner's Farm, which were personal favorites of the artist.  Today, the Greenville County Museum of Art owns the world’s largest public collection of watercolors by Andrew Wyeth.

Note: The Andrew & Betsy Wyeth Study Center of the Brandywine Museum of Art confirms that this object is recorded in Betsy James Wyeth’s files.

not examined out of sealed frame, both sides with vibrant color, one tear at lower left edge near signature on Undercover (see note below); frame in good condition

Note: according to the consignor, when the artist used the reverse side of the Kuerner's study to create Undercover, the sheet was slightly torn. He then repaired it with tape. The tape remained for many years on the sheet as the artist had left it. The pigment that shows through the tear is further proof that the tear was on the sheet "as made".

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
