Portrait of a Gentleman said to be Dr. James Craik (1730-1814), unsigned, oil on canvas, 34 x 27 in.; reproduction carved gilt wood frame, 39-1/2 x 32-1/2 in. Note: "James Craik was one of Washington’s oldest and closest friends. They met while serving in the Virginia Regiment during the French and Indian War and later Craik served under Washington during the American Revolution. In 1781 he was appointed “chief physician and surgeon of the army” by Congress.
