Rosewood and Marble Turtle-Top Table
attributed to John Henry Belter, New York, circa 1860, the original white cartouche-form marble top resting on a conforming carved skirt on scrolled and stylized dolphin-carved legs on scrolled feet, the cross-stretchers set with a fruit-carved ornament, casters, 29-1/2 x 40 x 32 in. probably original marble top (good shadow) with one minor edge crack and other stains and abrasions, cracks and repairs at two scrolled feet (with holes at underside from previous braces now removed), scattered chips to carved elements including at one dolphin lip, at one leaf to central fruit applique and to flower carving at skirt, skirt and legs with probable cleaning to surface but some parts of frame likely retain original varnish.
