lid with brass plaque "James Adair Patented Oct. 2nd 1866/Reissued Aug. 4th, 1868/B. & P. Lawrence Proprietors", oak throughout, hinged lid with leather writing surface opening to divided interior, on trestle form base, lidded inkwell set, back with metal plate "55E", mother of pearl button at front appears to be a buzzer mechanism, 33-1/2 x 23 x 21-1/4 in.

Condition

good structural condition, refinished, leather writing surface replaced, chip to rim of one glass inkwell, very minor cracks and separations to openwork back, other typical light wear, minor cracks, and abrasions, underside of feet with scars from previous mounting where it attached to rail or floor
