Provenance: Private Virginia CollectionNote:Christian Hurtin was born in either Newark, New Jersey or New York City. Around 1775 he moved to Goshen, New York where he advertised as a clock and watchmaker. There are three recorded examples of compasses by Hurtin, No. 8 dated 1788, No. 17 dated 1794 and No. 39 dated 1811.
