Roxbury, Massachusetts, 1790-1810, partial paper label for Simon Willard, arched dial with moon phase, seconds sweep, and date aperture paint-decorated with a sailing ship flying the American flag, signed "Simon Willard/Roxbury", rare time, strike, and alarm movement in a waisted mahogany case with fretwork and period brass eagle finials, pendulum and two weights present, 96-1/2 in.

Condition

dial and moon paint with craquelure, minor surface wear, flaking, and loss, some breaks and repairs to fretwork with one very small loss at fret, back of fret with later stains (other possible restorations, see detailed photos), losses to paper label (varnished), feet and base molding replaced with breaks and glue repair with associated losses, warping to base panel with scattered veneer repairs (later interior blocking), minor warping to door, one small veneer chip at top case molding, crack at glass on side panel, other molding and veneer cracks, other scattered minor repairs
