circa 1820-1825, attributed to Duncan Phyfe, New York, associated reeded marble top over a floating plinth and stepped cornice, columnar supports with floral molded gilt bronze capitals, mirrored doors, shelved interior, fitted secretary drawer with adjustable baize writing surface, pier table form base with shaped plinth and hairy paw feet, reverse stenciled with number "17478", 67-3/4 x 38 x 22-1/2 in.

Note: The form and proportions of the secretary bookcase offered here are nearly identical, down to the dimensions, to a secretary attributed to Duncan Phyfe from the estate of Dr. Saul Jaiven of Stamford, Connecticut, illustrated in Duncan Phyfe, Master Cabinetmaker in New York by Peter Kenny, et al. (pl. 33, pg. 209). The configuration of the fitted secretary drawer matches several documented Phyfe examples, including a work table also illustrated by Kenny (fig. 168, pg. 133).
