18th century, cherry with figured walnut veneers and poplar secondary, fan carved pediment and shell carved knees, upper case with stop fluted corners, 92 x 44-1/2 x 23 in.Note: This high chest descended in the Russell family of Boston, Massachusetts and was later displayed in the Gibbs-Blackwood house when the family purchased the home in the mid 20th century.  It is illustrated in Samuel and Narcissa Chamberlain's, Southern Interiors of Charleston, South Carolina, Hasting House, 1956, page 124., Provenance: Gibbs-Blackwood House, Charleston, South Carolina; Private Collection
