Lift-Top Chest front with inlaid initials "I. Mc 1787" and bird inlay, possibly North Carolina or Virginia origin, walnut with poplar secondary, 21-3/4 x 48-1/2 x 19-3/4 in.. Condition: iron hinges replaced and lacking lock, underside of top with scars from braces now removed, top with warping and three deep surface losses, largely original feet with two spurs tipped and one with loss, one side with facings replaced. Provenance: Clifton Anderson; said to have descended in a family that moved from North Carolina to Sumner County, Tennessee; Neal Auctions, October 13, 2001, lot 445; Collection of Anne McPherson and the Late John Bivins, Jr.
