Ten stations of the Crucifixion, 1966, signed verso, all stamped, signed and dated "Allan R. Crite, 1966", hand-carved painted and gilt wood on wood, 8 x 4-3/8 in. to 11-3/8 x 6-5/8 in.. Condition: abrasions, some flaking. Notes: Allan Rohan Crite was born in New Jersey and shortly after his family moved to Boston, Massachusetts. He was encouraged by his mother who valued both education and faith and also supported his pursuit of art. Crite is quoted as saying, "I've only done one piece of work in my whole life and I am still at it. I wanted to paint people of color as normal humans. I tell the story of man through the black figure."
