Portrait of Miss Matthews, in Green Silk Satin and Lace Gown, 1880, signed lower right "Alex.Cabanel/1880", oil on canvas, 45-3/4 x 28-1/4 in.; carved and gilt wood frame, early 20th century paste and linen lining, two periods of retouch with most in background, crackle, some lifting at right from lining; frame with abrasions. This indicates a picture with a sale to "Mr Matthews" the size of this painting (116.2 x 71.75 cm) and executed in 1880; II.2 indicates that a "Mister" Matthews paid Cabanel for a portrait of "Miss" Matthews, presumably a daughter or niece traveling with him..
