(Canadian/American, 1860-1950)

Dog with Bone, 1894, signed on naturalistic base "A. Phimister Proctor", cast likely by JNO Williams, circa 1903-1912, patinated bronze, 7-1/2 x 9 x 5-1/8 in.

Provenance: Red Fox Fine Art, Middleburg, Virginia, May 29,1990, sold for $3,880; Estate of Diane Parker, Thomasville, Georgia

Note: The model for this bronze was carved just after his success at the 1983 Worlds Columbian Exhibition in Chicago when Proctor traveled to Paris, France. In the land of the great animalier artists, Proctor won popular acclaim and the 1894 medal and prize for this sculpture at the Académie Julien. A facsimile of original receipt is accompanied by this lot.
