Not long after, he began his extensive research on De Grailly in preparation for an article he wrote forÿThe Magazine Antiques.ÿ At some point during his research he made the determination that this was not the hand of the artist, becauseÿÿaccompanying the original sales receipt is a note in William's hand attached to the original Old Print Shop label that reads "Purchased from Old Print Shop.ÿNotÿby De Grailly, attributed to Garnier."ÿ He was referring to Hippolyte-Louis Garnier,ÿa less well-known contemporary of De Grailly.
