Sunset: Carthorses Drinking at a Stream, after the painting held by The Tate, London painted in 1760, with letter verso dated 1902 from P & D Colnaghi Co. and addressing "her Ladyship", oil on canvas, 24-3/4 x 30 in.; possibly original gilt wood and composition frame, 33 x 37-7/8 in.

Note: The original painting was also the subject of an engraving by J. C. Bentley published in 1849. Reference: John Hayes, The Landscape Paintings of Thomas Gainsborough, 2 vols, London, 1982, no. 75.

lined with paste and linen, crackle, possible retouch under heavy natural varnish; frame with newer chestnut back frame, abrasions
