Labourage Nivernais (Ploughing in the Nivernais), unsigned, after the 1849 painting held by the Mus‚e d'Orsay, Paris (and other copies), oil on canvas, 27 x 53-7/8 in.; 19th century gilt wood and composition frame, 38-1/4 x 64-7/8 in.

Note: The first painting, titled Labourage Nivernais, was commissioned by the French government after Bonheur?s painting, B?ufs et taureaux (race du Cantal), was shown in the Salon of 1848, where it won 1st prize. Labourage Nivernais was completed the next year. It was such a famous painting that variants were done, one held by The Ringling, Sarasota, Florida.
