one-page, partially printed document on vellum from the office of The President of the United States of America, a Civil War appointment: "… reposing special trust and confidence in the patriotism, valor, fidelity, and abilities of Orrin E. Davis, I … appoint him Second Lieutenant in the Eighteenth Regiment of Infantry," signed by Lincoln and by Edwin M. Stanton, his Secretary of War, 18 x 13-1/2 in. (sight) very good with evidence of folds, a tiny amount of darkening in spots, the label on back states that it has been professionally conserved and is framed in conservation clear UV protected glass, framed in an attractive burlwood frame measuring 25-1/2 x 21 in..
